Damage Claims Phase III Project Work Group
Create standardized damage claims filing procedures for the N.A. Automotive Industry
Dimensional Pallet Standardization
This project will examine current practices and procedures and will identify avenues for improvement. The main goals are to:
  • Look at variations in existing pallet sizes.
  • Benchmark existing ISO standards.
  • Maximization of physical cube of containers should also be addressed.
Global MMOG Revision AIAG & Odette
Provides industry best practices for the materials management process in your facility and is intended to establish a common definition of materials practices to facilitate effective communication between trading partners. The guideline can be used internally as a continuous improvement tool, or externally as your customers require. This Excel file automatically calculates your Global MMOG/LE score and features a gap analysis tool.
Materials Flow Initiative to Strengthen Offshore Supply Ch.
This global project targets offshore sourcing movements and aims to significantly improve overall timing, consistency, compliance and costs in a just-in-time environment throughout transportation lanes. The offshore shipping process will be examined and opportunities identified where actions can be taken to streamline processes for increased efficiency and visibility. Potential improvements are expected to result in reductions in the use of paper documents, faxes and emails currently used to manage transportation and customs processing. Solutions for supply chain disruptions such as split shipments and changing carriers and/or modes will also be identified.
Pallet/Lid Control Improvement
Consider a third party organization to manage reusable plastic pallets and lids for all OEMs and tier relationships.
  • Standardize reusable plastic pallet and lid across the automotive industry.
  • Increase ownership & awareness of the reusable plastic pallet and lid management process to management of the tier and OEMs.
  • Benchmark and standardize reusable plastic pallet and lid management best practices from OEMs and tiers.
    • Reduce bottlenecks in the supply chain related to reusable plastic pallet and lid mismanagement.
    • Develop world class reusable plastic pallet and lid tracking processes. Alleviate costs related to expendable shipments during shortages of reusable plastic pallet and lid.
Supply Chain Management Steering Committee
Executives from automotive OEMs and parts suppliers provide a broad overview of industry needs in the materials management functional area. They provide an oversight for the prioritization, selection, development, and deployment of materials management initiatives that will strengthen the automotive industry supply chain. The MMSC is chartered to drive awareness and implementation of industry best practices and education/training through the supply chain.
Visibility of Finished Vehicles / Electronic Messages
The development of standard event descriptions, definitions, and communication protocol/options that improved visibility of the finished vehicle supply chain across all manufacturers and their suppliers, establishing a critical cornerstone which will help drive the entire Vehicle Outbound Logistics project.
  • Improve the range and quality of information available to manufacturers and their transportation providers so that they can better coordinate their transportation activities.
  • Create a shared nomenclature and definition for the key events and measures used in the finished vehicle transportation process.
  • Encourage the development of mechanisms that provide unbiased visibility and transparency to all supply chain partners.
