Manufacturers and suppliers in the automotive industry and its supply chain face a plethora of governmental regulations, in the United States and globally, on the use and management of chemicals in the production process. Thus, it's important that all levels of an organization understand the regulatory requirements of its products. We are working on developing training for just such a purpose, as it is too late to discover an issue when the product is in, or about to go into, production.
To further support member companies, we keep them abreast of existing and emerging regulations and provide an assessment of their impact. And by joining with other industrial groups to develop common processes and tools that increase the efficiency of regulatory compliance, we minimize the cost to all member companies.
We also work with other supplier groups (JAMA and CLEPA) to develop a common voice from suppliers to the IMDS Steering Committee for changes in the system and documentation. We have participated with supplier groups and the Steering Committee in efforts to rewrite recommendations and implement ELV requirements into IMDS.
The mission of this initiative is to:
- Define the global impact of emerging chemical management or product stewardship regulations on the automotive industry;
- Support the development and operation of chemical reporting processes to meet both regulatory and customer requirements; and
- Interact with other automotive associations on regulatory, customer and reporting requirements.
