Potential FMEA for Tooling and Equipment Roll-Out
A Live Event recording on December 6, 2012: A common confusion about PFMEA is that it represents an evaluation of the machine design. In actuality the PFMEA assumes that all machines included in the analysis have had an FMEA analysis. Machine suppliers are required to analyze a machine for weaknesses and issues. Those that can't be designed out, require a preventative maintenance schedule. Normally machine suppliers were directed to the SAE J1739 reference document that contained a section dealing with design tooling and equipment failure mode and effects analysis. During the update of J1739 that section was dropped from the standard. Chrysler, Ford and General Motors have updated the Tooling and Equipment FMEA reference document and release it as Potential Failure Mode and Effects Analysis for Tooling & Equipment - Machinery FMEA, 2nd edition.
