Course Description: Offered both virtually and in person (depending on location), the 4-day IATF 16949 3rd Party New Auditor Training includes individual and group exercises, quizzes, and homework activities. (Note: This program applies to third-party auditor certification specifically – not first- or second-party auditors.)

This training program will help you:

  • Understand and apply the automotive process approach incorporating risk-based thinking
  • Understand and apply the competency criteria as defined in the IATF auditor guide when undertaking any IATF 16949 audit
  • Effectively audit the requirements defined in ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and customer specific requirements (including Core Tools) in an automotive process approach audit
  • Plan and undertake effective stage 1, stage 2, surveillance, recertification, transfer and special audits in accordance with the Rules for achieving and maintaining IATF recognition
  • Understand reporting requirements for stage 1, stage 2, surveillance, recertification, transfer and special audits in accordance with the Rules for achieving and maintaining IATF recognition
  • Write system-based nonconformities and evaluate client responses in accordance with the Rules for achieving and maintaining IATF recognition

Additional Information for Live Virtual Students: Live Virtual sessions require you to use a device capable of streaming content through a video conferencing platform. You must also agree to always keep your camera active during the training. (Please note that attending the Live Virtual training session means your exam may also be virtual!)

Prerequisites and Requirements: Prerequisites for this program include knowledge of the IATF 16949 standard and Automotive Core Tools, as this training does not cover those areas in detail. During the application process – and prior to completing registration for the program – you will also need to complete prerequisite trainings via the IATF ADP.

To attend this course, you must meet the requirements of Section 4.2 in the Rules for achieving and maintaining IATF Recognition, 5th Edition, and related Sanctioned Interpretations, and be sponsored by an IATF-contracted Certification Body (CB). Your official contact at the sponsoring CB will work with AIAG on your behalf.

Step 1 - Connect With Your CB To Get Started

The official contact for your sponsoring CB will work with you to complete required application documents before providing them to AIAG. These include:

  1. The “Part 1 - IATF 16949 3rd Party New Auditor Training & Assessment Application – Qualification Form,” signed by the sponsoring CB contact.
  2. An updated CV/resume that clearly lists your four (4) years full-time appropriate practical experience, including two (2) years dedicated to Quality Assurance and/or Quality Management activities within the past 15 years in an automotive manufacturing organization meeting the applicability of IATF 16949.
  3. A copy of your Auditor or Lead Auditor ISO 9001 certificate.
  4. Your Audit Log, which must clearly list, at minimum, six (6) ISO 9001 audits in manufacturing industries, including at least three (3) as audit team leader.

Step 2 - AIAG Approval/Start Prerequisites

After AIAG receives your initial application documents, we will review and approve the materials before initiating your IATF ADP account for prerequisite trainings. You will then receive a separate email from the ADP portal to complete your registration, and your sponsoring CB will be notified of a new auditor registration. The CB will either pay the initial $250 Annual Fee or forward it to you for payment, after which you can access the ADP to complete the following prerequisites:

  1. IATF 16949 Training and Quiz (successful pass)
  2. Rules 5 Training and Quiz (successful pass)
  3. Knowledge Pre-Study Exams (completion)
  4. FMEA and Control Plan Training and Quiz (successful pass)
  5. MSA and SPC Training and Quiz (successful pass)
  6. AIAG-VDA FMEA Training and Quiz (successful pass)

Step 3 - New Auditor Training/Assessment

Once you’ve successfully passed all five prerequisites, please be sure to notify your CB contact, who will then send AIAG your completed “IATF 16949 3rd Party New Auditor Training & Assessment Application – Part 2 – Registration Form” and certificates for the ADP prerequisite courses. AIAG will then register you for your training session and schedule your exam in the ADP portal!
